Thomas Best, MD, PhD, co-medical director of OSU Sports Medicine Center and Professor / Pomerene Chair in Family Medicine, has been elected president of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). The American College of Sports Medicine is the largest sports medicine and exercise science organization in the world. More than 35,000 international, national, and regional members and certified professionals are dedicated to advancing and integrating scientific research to provide educational and practical applications of exercise science and sports medicine.

Best will serve as president-elect of ACSM for one year before assuming his presidential duties June 5, 2010. Best’s contributions to ACSM are substantial. He is the associate editor in chief of Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, ACSM’s official scientific journal, and has served on the board of trustees and as vice president of the organization during his 18 years of membership. He plans to not only make scientific advancements in the United States during his tenure, but around the world as well.
