Announcements > OSU Sports Medicine Teams Up with USA Rugby High Performance

July 2008

USA Rugby High Performance has officially announced a partnership with Ohio State's Sports Medicine Center.

As part of the agreement, the Sports Medicine Center will serve as the provider of choice for USA Rugby High Performance in the Ohio area, gain the opportunity to provide support staff to national teams, and partner in researching the most innovative approaches to injury prevention and treatment for USA Rugby's elite athletes.

"OSU Sports Medicine is excited about the partnership with USA Rugby. We see this as a great example of bench-to-sideline research application," says Tom Caldwell, director of the center. "There is great value in researching High Performance athletes in order to increase the level of coverage for USA Rugby's elite athletes and rugby players in the greater Ohio area."

In addition, USA Rugby will refer its High Performance Athletes to OSU Sports Medicine for quarterly strength and conditioning testing, as well as injury management and rehabilitation. The two organizations will also work together to create and support optimum strength and conditioning protocols for USA Rugby's elite athletes.

USA Rugby and OSU Sports Medicine have previously enjoyed a longstanding informal partnership, with USA Rugby events such as the North America 4 series taking place on OSU's campus and tournament coverage being provided by OSU Sports Medicine.
